Learn German and discover Vienna!
Vienna, the city with the highest quality of life in the world, unites tradition and modernity in its own unique way. With 1.7 million inhabitants, Vienna is both Austria’s capital and its largest city — and the site of the first and only Humboldt-Institut program in Austria, where a truly charming dialect of German is spoken.
Besides the old town and Schoenbrunn Palace, both of which are UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites, Vienna also boasts countless imperial residences and palaces, museums, famous buildings and landmarks, the most internationally known of which are St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom) and the Ferris wheel in Prater Park. Coffeehouses, Sacher torte, schnitzel Vienna style and the Naschmarkt — the city’s wide variety of attractions caters to every taste. Learn more about our German language summer program in Vienna!
Our course location can be reached easily and safely from Vienna Airport with the Humboldt transfer service.

Accommodation
Our students live in the Guest House Wien-Brigittenau, Vienna’s most modern youth hostel. It is ideally located between Danube Island and downtown Vienna, which gives our students a blend of the atmosphere of the big city with the advantages of a quiet and safe residential area.
The city center with its many historic and cultural sights can easily be reached during free time. The nearby Danube Island is an oasis of tranquility and is ideal for relaxation, sports and manifold leisure activities.
The bright and modern twin rooms all have en-suite bathrooms. The guest house offers free WiFi.
We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately.
Our students receive three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly.

Leisure time and excursions
The Humboldt leisure program turns learning German into an unforgettable adventure with lots of varied and fun activities. Every day, students enjoy a mix of activities and two exciting excursions each week. Together, they explore Germany, their course location, and local culture, all while practicing German in real-life situations, no matter their skill level.
But it’s not all about learning! There’s plenty of time to relax, make new friends from around the world, and create lasting memories.

Leisure program in Vienna
A single summer course is not nearly enough time to fully enjoy all the many different options and opportunities that Vienna has to offer. Each year, the city attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. But away from downtown’s liveliness, Vienna is also famous for its beautiful parks and recreational areas along the shores of the Danube River — all of which guarantee wonderful leisure time possibilities and an unforgettable summer.
Excursions
Every Saturday, our staff members organize and accompany full-day excursions to attractive destinations. Every Wednesday, our students will have half-day excursions to sights and interesting towns within the region. The excursions and the entrance fees are already included in the course fee.
We discover old and modern Vienna! Around St. Stephen’s Cathedral and in the footsteps of Empress Sisi in the Hofburg Palace, on a multimedia journey through time or among the skyscrapers of the UNO City. Afterwards, we enjoy the view from the Giant Ferris Wheel in the Prater, the amusement park in the middle of the city that is open all year round. After the activities, we relax on the nearby sandy beach of the Danube Island.
This is how summer in the city works!
