Online German Courses

In addition to the proven German courses at various course locations, the Humboldt Institute now also offers online German courses that allow students of different ages to learn German from home.

Here is an overview of the most important facts regarding the online German classes:

  • Lessons are taught by experienced teachers from the Humboldt-Institut
  • A proven curriculum and course material from the intensive courses
  • All skills – speaking, writing, reading, listening and grammar – are also covered in the online course
  • A powerful learning platform with virtual rooms for lessons and group work
  • Different courses and/or timelines are available to choose from

This flexible program means that students who are currently unable to travel to Germany for a German course can access the high-quality course offers of the Humboldt-Institut from home.

The format of the courses supports a continuous learning process and teachers are available to answer questions from the students.

In July and August the Humboldt Institute offers online German classes for adolescents. With those classes also young learners can learn German from home. Here is an overview of the available courses and dates:

Course Information

The Online German Course 10 can be booked for 2 or 4 weeks. All courses end on August 28th, 2020 at the latest.

The course comprises 10 lessons per week, the course material and a certificate of participation. The courses take place with a minimum of 4 students per class. The maximum class size is 9 students. Please note that the courses are not suitable for total beginners.

Fifteen year old students can choose to take a course from the younger or the older group. The courses differ primarily in the vocabulary and the topics of the exercises, which are designed according to the students’ age.

 

Technical Requirements

The learning platform runs in your browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari). A computer or laptop with headphones, microphone and camera is required. You can use the following link to check whether your computer is suitable for online courses: System check. The technical review is required to book one of the online German course.

Your German level will be determined by an online placement test. You will receive the link and further information after booking the course.

 

Enrollment

You may use our enrollment form to book one of the online German courses. Please select the entry “Online courses” under point 1 “Your school”. You can then choose between the different courses. After the booking request, you will receive a summary by email and a separate booking confirmation within one working day.

The registration period ends two weeks before the start of the course. Payment of the course fee is due before the start of the course.

In the days before the course starts, online meetings are offered for a technical check of your device and to get to know the learning platform. You will receive a separate message from our booking office. Participation in one of these meetings is mandatory, as no technical problems can be discussed during the courses.

Course Information

The online intensive course 30 mirrors the proven classroom-based Intensive Course 30 and enables course participants to make a quick learning progress in German.

From June 29, the online intensive courses 30 will be integrated into the classroom-based intensive courses 30 in so-called hybrid classes. The online participants can see both the teacher and classmates in the classroom in Berlin-Mitte and can thus continue to take part in the lessons from home.

The Online Saturday Course reflects the proven classroom-based Saturday Course and enables course participants to learn German on Saturdays.

As soon as the classroom based Saturday courses in Berlin-Mitte resume, participants can simply switch back from the online course to the face-to-face course.

Course Information

The Online Evening Course reflects the proven classroom-based Evening Course and enables course participants to learn German on two evenings every Tuesday and Thursday.

As soon as the classroom based evening courses in Berlin-Mitte resume, participants can simply switch back from the online course to the face-to-face course.

Individual courses are a great way to prepare from home for a face-to-face course in Berlin-Mitte or Constance. Online one-to-one courses can be booked upon request. The schedule and the scope of these courses are flexible. The minimum booking is two lessons of 45 minutes per week with a total booking of at least 10 lessons. The fee per lesson of 45 minutes is 60.– €.

The online courses comprise the respective number of lessons, the course material and a certificate of participation.

The minimum age to attend the courses is 18 years. The courses take place with a minimum of 4 students per class. The maximum class size is 9 students.

A trial day can be arranged upon request.
