Historic university town at Lake Constance
Constance is a lively university town of 82,000 people and is located right on the banks of Lake Constance (Bodensee), often playfully referred to as the “Swabian Sea.” The city has a very attractive historic downtown area, where buildings from the Middle Ages stand alongside Renaissance houses and Baroque palaces; they bear witness to the prosperity of this venerable trading town. Thanks to its proximity to the Swiss border Constance was spared from destruction in World War II.
Wide range of cultural events
The brilliant setting of the town on the shores of the lake and in the foothills of the Alps makes Constance a very attractive program site and facilitates a great variety of leisure opportunities. Due to the modern University, which is one of only 10 Elite Universities of Germany, the city has a fantastic infrastructure for international students and offers a wide range of cultural events, e.g., music, theater and film festivals, jazz performances and literature meetings, as well as a large number of bars, cafés, clubs and restaurants.

Our course center in Constance is located in a modern building which offers all the conveniences of a residential school and is decorated in a very friendly, unique way. All the classrooms are bright and large, their equipment is up-to-date, functional and of high quality.
Nearby university and city center
The location of the school is ideal, as it is within a 5-10 minute walking distance from Lake Constance and the University. The city center is only a few minutes away by bus and can be reached from the school on foot by walking from the lake through a very beautiful park.

The residence is in the same building as the classrooms and is run like a university dormitory, where students are given a key to the building and can come and go as they wish.
Single and twin rooms
Students stay in friendly single or twin rooms, each equipped with bathroom and shower. Students who bring their own laptop have free Internet access from their room. A TV room and a laundry room are at students' disposal. All meals are taken in the school's dining room and are served buffet style. A fruit basket is available throughout the day.
Full-time staff organizing leisure activities
We have a full-time staff person in charge of organizing leisure activities for our students and who also makes an effort to help them organize their own free time by giving them useful information and suggestions. If our students have any special preferences or wishes – if, for example, they plan to see a particular festival, or to take part in the activities of a particular sports club – they are welcome to ask for our assistance.

Sporting activities at the University
Moreover, students at the Humboldt-Institut are entitled to participate in sporting activities organized by the University. The same conditions apply here as for students and employees of the University of Constance. During term time there are about 30 different types of sports for you to choose from.
Cultural events in Constance
The city of Constance also offers a great variety of cultural events (music, theater, film, and art), shopping opportunities and sports facilities.
Full-day excursions
Every Saturday, our staff organizes and accompanies full-day excursions, which are included in the package course fee (entrance fees not included). We try to offer our students a great variety of trips to interesting cities like:
Stuttgart
The so-called “cradle of the automobile”, where the Mercedes-Benz was invented and where Porsche and Maybach now have plants as well
Freiburg
A very idyllic university town in the Black Forest with a very charming, historic downtown
Interesting destinations
The local attractions and towns around Lake Constance (Ueberlingen, Friedrichshafen, Meersburg, the Island of Mainau, Schaffhausen/Rhine Falls) are also favourite destinations, and even to nearby Switzerland (Zurich, Basel, St. Gallen, Saentis), which is now part of the EU’s passport-free travel zone and no longer requires a special visa.
Railway station
We will gladly pick up our course participants from the closest railway station free of charge. The name of that station is Constance (German part) or Kreuzlingen (Swiss part).
Airport transfer
If you wish to be picked up from the airport, we can arrange an airport transfer service for a small fee. Airports from and to which transfers can be arranged are: Zurich and Friedrichshafen.
