Wittgenstein Castle is our course center for the youngest learners and their parents and is located on a hill above Bad Laasphe. This charming historic town, surrounded by idyllic scenery, is located about 120 km east of Cologne. The romantic River Lahn meanders through the historic center of the spa town with its picturesque timber-framed houses.
Our course center is located at the famous Castle of Wittgenstein, ancestral home of the illustrious Sayn-Wittgenstein dynasty, mentioned as early as 1187. The castle school is a successful combination of historic and modern buildings, featuring ample sports facilities. A special feature are the horses in the school-owned riding stables.
Our students live in the boarding school of Wittgenstein Castle in rooms with three to four beds. Showers and toilets are shared facilities.
We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately.
Our students receive three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) as well as a snack daily.
Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly.
The course center is ideal for younger students, as they can run and play at their leisure on the absolutely secluded and safe campus. The school provides a large sports hall, two indoor tennis courts, as well as two sport fields. Visits to the nearby outdoor or (in case of bad weather) indoor swimming pools will be organized by our counselors. For the horse fancier, Wittgenstein is the perfect location: The school owns several horses and horseback riding classes are offered for a small fee.
But even for those who don’t enjoy sports, there are several options to keep busy and entertained after class: Our staff will also organize creative workshops, game parties and ping-pong tournaments.
Every day we offer an attractive and varied activity program with sports, games or cultural events for the leisure time after class. Our staff will encourage and motivate students to participate in the activities. This leisure program is included in the tuition fees.

Every Saturday, our staff members organize and accompany full-day excursions to attractive destinations. Every Wednesday, our students will have half-day excursions to sights and interesting towns within the region. The excursions and the entrance fees are already included in the course fee. We guarantee reliable around-the-clock supervision, both during the excursions as well as throughout the whole course. All students are expected to attend all classes, meals and scheduled activities and excursions.

As the students in Wittgenstein are very young we would like to point out that all participants must have spoken and written mastery of the Latin alphabet to be accepted into the course.
Learn German with your child. Exclusively at Wittgenstein Castle we offer German courses for parents. In these lessons we put emphasis on teaching practical German that will be helpful for everyday life and that show instant success when actively used in daily situations.
The parents are housed in the castle as well, in comfortable double rooms with shower and toilet en-suite. Single rooms are available upon request.
Even though parents have their own classes separately from their children, they are still close to them. The recreational activities in the afternoon, as well as the weekend excursions are for parents and children to enjoy together. During the summer course in Wittgenstein, the Humboldt-Institut offers horseback riding lessons for beginners as a paid additional course.
The students are taken to a riding stable in the vicinity by employees of the Humboldt-Institut. Depending on the level of the riding students, lessons take place in the group or individually on the longe line.
The duration of the lessons depends on the level of the riding student and is determined by the instructor.
