Current Information on Coronavirus (Update)15. March 2020
Last update: Tuesday, June 30, 2020, 9:00 CET
It is of utmost importance to us to keep everyone informed about the current situation regarding the coronavirus, which is why we regularly consult with the German Ministry of Health as well as the Robert-Koch-Institut (German federal government agency for disease control and prevention) and local authorities in order to be able to accordingly amend our proceedings if required. Both institutions publish daily updated and reliable information regarding the current coronavirus situation in Germany on their respective websites linked above.
Current Situation at the Humboldt-Institut Course Centers
Our schools in Bad Schussenried, Lindenberg, Berlin and Constance are closed until further notice. Boarding school operations continue with restrictions that serve to protect the community. Students continue to receive accommodation and board. Below you will find details on each of our course centers.
The boarding school operates with restrictions. Students receive lessons, accommodation and meals in the boarding school and take part in the leisure program on campus. Except for the city walks, there are currently no excursions and activities outside of the campus. Whether excursions can take place will be decided on a weekly basis depending on the official restrictions at the time. Alternatively, excursions are replaced by activities. Students are divided into so-called family groups and only have contact with students from their own family group during lessons, meals and after-class activities. As an additional safety measure, all students and employees are required to wear a face mask if the minimum distance of 1.5 m cannot be maintained. No mask requirement applies in the student rooms. The institute’s own green spaces may also be used under hygienic measures. City walks are possible in groups of 4 students + 1 supervisor from the same family group. Visits to the students are not possible due to the instructions of the federal state. The following link provides an overview of all corona related course regulations in Bad Schussenried.
New enrollments will be accepted starting now.

Online Summer Courses 2020
The Humboldt-Institut will offer special online summer courses for students who won’t be able to travel abroad this summer. Those courses comprise 10 lessons per week and are offered for teenagers in two different age groups (ages 13-15 and 15-17). The courses are taught from Monday to Friday. Students can choose between two morning sessions (9:00 – 10:30 or 11:00 – 12:30 CET) and an afternoon session (16:00 – 17:30 CET). Minimum booking is two weeks and the courses can be booked for either 2 or 4 weeks. The fee is 115,– € / week. Courses can be booked starting July 6. The booking deadline is two weeks prior to the beginning of the course.
More information on the online summer courses can be found on the page Online German Courses.
Summer Courses 2020 / German Courses 2020
As of now, the following summer courses and year-round German courses are scheduled to take place:
German (Summer) Courses for Kids
German (Summer) Courses for Adults
The courses listed above will take place as planned, but of course this depends on further decisions by the governments and above all on whether borders are reopened and visa procedures at the embassies are resumed. The Humboldt-Institut will in any case take all necessary measures to offer a safe learning and living environment for the students at all times and in accordance with German law.
Unfortunately not all courses can take place and the following summer courses have ultimately been canceled for 2020: Schmallenberg, Kempten, Meersburg, Berlin-Teenager, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Vienna, Bad Dürkheim, Berlin-Lehnin, Reimlingen, Heessen Castle, Wittgenstein Castle. The year-round German courses for adults in Constance are currently suspended and replaced by online courses.
All students affected from those cancelations will be contacted directly by our booking office within the following weeks. Please wait until you have been contacted since we have limited capacity and can only work on a certain number of bookings at a time. Thank you!
* In Lindenberg, a two-week quarantine applies for newly arriving students.
Present and Future Bookings
The special situation also requires certain flexibility from our side regarding our official cancellation policy, which was originally installed for the normal state. Our terms and conditions still apply at this point. We will do our very best to find individual solutions based on each case when necessary.
Students or parents who booked their course via an agency should contact their agency first, thank you!
Measures Taken at the Humboldt-Institut
While we should all keep our calm and try not to panic, certain measurements have been put into place in order to keep our students and staff members on-site safe, e. g.:
• Keeping a minimum distance of 1.5m or wearing a facial mask
• Excursions have been canceled for children and teenagers until further notice. All leisure activities will take place on campus.
• Provision of hand sanitizers in front of the dining hall.
• Signs displayed in several locations of the building, reminding students to regularly wash their hands and explaining how to properly do so.
• Immediate quarantine and consultation with a doctor in case a student shows even mild symptoms
• Students on site will be regularly informed on the current situation and will be taken care of
If you have any questions, please contact us by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (+49 7522 988-0). Due to the high number of inquiries, processing times may be longer. We strive to answer you as soon as possible and ask for your understanding!
We wish all our friends in Germany and around the globe much health, and we would like to thank everyone for their support during this time!
