Meersburg was named after the town’s impressive 1,400-year old fortress, the oldest one in Germany that is still in use. The picturesque little town with a population of about 5,600 people is located on the shores of Lake Constance. Surrounded by orchards and vineyards, it offers a marvelous view of the imposing peaks of the Swiss and Austrian Alps. But it is not only the romantic region that makes this course center so popular with our students.
Our German courses in Meersburg are held in the JUFA Meersburg and the immediate surroundings. The convenient location of the school in the middle of the historic downtown area of Meersburg makes it very attractive to our students, as right after their classes they can enjoy the lively atmosphere of the pedestrian zone of this beautiful town.
In Meersburg our students can choose between staying with host families or in the JUFA hotel.
The JUFA hotel is a modern family hotel situated in the city center in close proximity to our school. Students stay in triple or quadruple rooms with en-suite bathrooms and Wi-Fi access.

Students staying with host families will stay in a single, twin or a multiple occupancy room. Most of the host families live within walking distance of the school, and if they don’t, our students will be given a bicycle to use free of charge in return for a deposit payment. Many Meersburg families have become traditional hosts for our students; they enjoy the international atmosphere and want to give their international visitors insight into their lives.
Concerning room assignments, the same rules apply as in our residential schools:
We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately.
Students have breakfast either with their family or at the JUFA hotel depending on their choice of accommodations. Dinner will be served for all our students at the JUFA hotel. Students can choose between half board and full board. If they choose full board, lunch will be also served at the JUFA hostel and is then included in their course fee. If they choose half board, students can explore the restaurants and cafes in Meersburg for lunch.
As our Meersburg students are minors, certain rules have to be obeyed, especially regarding free time. On school nights, for instance, they have to be in their rooms no later than 10 pm. Observing those rules is essential, if the program is to be successful for everyone. Host families and school representatives work together to ensure that rules are observed.
Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly. It is usually possible for host families to do students’ personal laundry for a small fee.
Despite its small size, Meersburg is a wonderfully lively town that offers an amazing variety of recreational opportunities. The proximity of the lake is ideal for swimming and sunbathing, and the gorgeous old part of town is perfect for shopping or taking a stroll in an idyllic atmosphere with stunning views of the Alps.
