Berlin-Lehnin

ages 9-13 · A1-B1

Lehnin is a small town of 12,000 people located near Potsdam and Berlin. The Lehnin monastery is still the focal point of this lively town, which is surrounded by forests, lakes and rivers.

The beautiful landscape calls for hiking and biking trips, and the large lake right next to our school offers our students opportunities for swimming, sailing or rowing. The proximity of Berlin guarantees interesting excursions on the weekends.

The school

Our students are guests at the Lehnin Institute of Fine Arts and Crafts, which is located on the shores of the beautiful Klostersee (Monastery Lake) and within walking distance of the town. As a center of art the institute features a wonderful sculpture park and modern buildings. In the institute’s many workshops and studios we offer (free) art lessons in the afternoons so that our students can give wings to their creativity.

Accommodation

The guest houses offer rooms with two, three and four beds, each with en-suite shower and toilet. Most of the rooms offer a splendid view of the lake and the forests surrounding the institute. As our classes take place on the very same premises, our students can conveniently walk to their lessons without leaving the residential campus.

We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately.

Our students receive three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) as well as a snack daily.

Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly.

Leisure time

The Lehnin Institute offers a great variety of creative, artistic and technical activities including workshops in sculpting, metal casting, painting and drawing (included in the course fee).

The wonderful location of the school amidst forests and meadows is perfect for mountain biking and hiking, and crystal clear lakes invite passersby to swim and linger. Favorites of our students are campfire evenings next to the lake, and the optional sailing and rowing courses. After 10 lessons and a big final outing, students will know how to get around safely on the water in either a sail boat or a row boat.

Activity program

Every day we offer an attractive and varied activity program with sports, games or cultural events for the leisure time after class. Our staff will encourage and motivate students to participate in the activities. This leisure program is included in the tuition fees.
