Myriam from Italy 🇮🇹 – Winner of our Advent Calendar19. December 2025 by Humboldt-Institut
This year, we were delighted to welcome three winners from last year’s Advent calendar in Berlin. As luck would have it, only adults won. First up was Igor from Kazakhstan, followed by Iara from Brazil, and now, at the very end of the year, we welcomed Myriam from Italy. Our colleague Ida did a short interview with her. We hope you enjoy reading it!
It’s great to have you here! How did you find out about Humboldt?
Actually my mother did it for me – she has been participating in the Humboldt Advent Calendar for several years and won for me last year! I am very grateful to her for that. I love the course and I am learning a lot. I will definitely come back in the future!
That’s wonderful! And why are you learning German?
Because I love languages and because my mother is German and German is an important language for science and many other things.
How do you like the course and Berlin?
I’m currently in level B2. Every day there are lots of new words and you learn a lot. We also learn content from the C1 course and it’s exciting and at a high level, which I really like.
This course is also my first time in Berlin and I like the city very much. I’ve already seen the TV tower on Alexanderplatz, the Brandenburg Gate and many other sights.
Do you have a favorite German word?
Nothing comes to mind right now, but I love that you can combine many words together, create new words, and build on them.
What are your plans after the course? What do you want to do with German in the future?
I’m taking a break from university now. I studied Arabic and German for a year, but only for a year. After that, I want to travel a bit more and maybe study in Germany next year. I’m interested in languages and want to study them.
That sounds great—languages connect us all! Would you like to say anything else to conclude?
Yes, I have a message for all students who are just starting to learn German: Don’t give up, German is difficult, but you can do it!
Haha, thank you! That’s a great piece of advice 🙂
The Humboldt-Advent Calendar is open until December 21st included. Participate now and win a 2-week German course!
