Vienna - wide variety of attractions

Vienna, the city with the highest quality of life in the world, unites tradition and modernity in its own unique way. With 1.7 million inhabitants, Vienna is both Austria’s capital and its largest city – and the site of the first Humboldt-Institut program in neighboring Austria. Not only is it home to an exceptionally charming dialect of German, Vienna also offers what may be the world’s finest cultural scene: besides the old city and Schönbrunn Palace, both of which are UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites, Vienna also boasts countless royal residences and palaces, museums, famous buildings and landmarks, the most internationally known of which are St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Ferris wheel in Prater park. Coffeehouses, Sachertorte, Wiener Schnitzel and the Naschmarkt: architectural monuments are not all that Vienna has to offer – the city’s wide variety of attractions cater to every taste!

Floating classrooms: lessons on the ship "Bertha von Suttner"

Everything is extraordinary in our Vienna program, even the classrooms: The "Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium", where our German courses take place, is not a regular high school. Classes there are held on a 189m long ship with a total of 36 classroooms - this is unique in Europe! The ship is docked on the Danube river and can easily and safely be reached by foot from our accommodation. The unique location directly on the Danube Island and the unrivaled ambiance of classes in the "belly" of the ship contribute to make this German course experience extraordinary and unforgettable.

Modern hostel close to the city center of Vienna

Our students live in the Hostel "Wien Brigittenau", Vienna's most modern youth hostel. It is ideally located between the Danube Island and the down town area of Vienna. This way, the guest house combines the atmosphere of the big city with the advantages of a quiet and safe residential area. The classrooms on the "Bertha-von-Suttner" school ship are within walking distance. The city center with its many historic and cultural sights can easily be reached during the free time. The near-by Danube Island is an oasis of tranqulity and is ideal for relaxation, sports and manifold leisure activities.

Comfortable modern twin rooms

Our students stay exclusively in comfortable, modern twin rooms, which all have en suite bathroom facilities (shower/WC) and air condition. A room is always shared by two students. When choosing roommates we are very careful to select people of similar age and German knowledge, yet different native language, to encourage them to practice their German with each other. Male and female students live on different floors of the hostel.

Full board

We provide full board for our teenagers, which includes three main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) a day. Breakfast and dinner will be served in the dining room of the youth hostel, while lunch will be served on board of the ship.

Laundry

Laundry service is offered to our students free of charge once a week.
