Located in the middle of the Allgäu region - a popular holiday destination - Kempten’s location is ideal for excursions to the peaks of the Allgäu Alps, to Lake Constance and to the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle. The neighboring countries of Austria and Switzerland, as well as the city of Munich - are a short trip from the school. Even the Romans appreciated this favorable location, founding their city of Cambodunum and making Kempten one of the oldest cities in Germany. Whether you are interested in the many recreational opportunities in the surrounding area or in a stroll through downtown, Kempten has plenty to offer, no matter what your tastes.
Our courses will take place at the JUFA hostel in friendly, modern classrooms. The JUFA is situated on a quiet residential area above the city center, about a 20 minute walk into town.
Our classes will be held in the attractive and bright seminar rooms of the hostel, which are all equipped with up-to-date technology. As our students are accommodated in the very same building where they have their classes, they can conveniently walk there from their rooms without having to leave the premises.
Our students live in the JUFA Youth Hostel in the same building where their classes are held. The hostel is just a few years old and sets a very high standard. The JUFA offers modern triple and few 4-bed rooms, all with shower and toilet. When choosing roommates we are very careful to select people of similar age and German knowledge, yet different native language, to encourage them to practice their German with each other. Male and female students live on different floors or wings of the residence.
Due to its location in the very center of the city, within easy walking distance from the old town, the JUFA Youth Hostel is the perfect place to begin exploring Kempten and its many sights.
We provide full board for our teenagers, which includes three main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) a day. All meals are served buffet style in the very friendly dining hall.
Laundry service is offered to our students free of charge once a week.
The Cambomare leisure center with outdoors pool, adventure slides and sports pool is borders the school and provides fun and variety. As always at the Humboldt-Institut, the entrance fee is already included in the course fee.
Our staff will organize a daily program of sports, games and/or cultural events for the time after class; this service is already included in the course fee. Our counselors will encourage all students to participate, while guaranteeing reliable round-the-clock supervision seven days a week. They will also take our teenagers on full-day excursions every Saturday; these may include, e. g., a trip to Munich, Lindau, Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Castles, Augsburg, Fuessen or the Alps.
Due to its wonderful central location within walking distance of all major downtown sights, the Youth Hostel is not only the perfect starting point for those who want to explore and discover Kempten, it is also a great and quiet place to relax after a strenuous afternoon in town.
Every Saturday, our counselors organize and accompany full-day excursions. These events and the entrance fees are included in the course fee.
In addition to the full-day excursions on Saturday, every Wednesday our students will be offered half-day excursions to sights within the region or to interesting locations in Kempten and the Allgaeu region.
Wherever we take our course participants, we guarantee reliable supervision during the trip.
We will gladly pick up our students from the closest railway station free of charge. The name of that station is Kempten Main Station.
If students wish to be picked up from the airport, we can arrange an airport transfer service for them for a fee. The airports from and to which transfers can be arranged are listed below. Fees will be doubled for transfers on other days than the official days of arrival and departure.
