Work experience abroad becomes more and more important. Working at a German company allows you to practice the language while gaining experience in a professional environment. It offers you an insight towards a German daily work routine and gives you a cross-cultural feeling for dos and donts with Germans. This makes you more professional in negotiations and other business contacts – an important advantage on the job market. Invest in better language skills and work experience!
The Humboldt-Institut offers young professionals and university students internships at German companies. To ensure an efficient cooperation between intern and company, the participants first take an intensive German course at our center in Constance. The duration depends on the previous knowledge of the student but has to last at least 4 weeks. In order to be able to work in a German company, students must have finished level B2 (Competence Level of the Council of Europe). Total beginners usually finish level B2 after 6 months of intensive German course with 30 lessons per week at our institute.
After the course the students will take internships in German companies, institutes or organizations for 2 to 12 months. We can only arrange internships in the field the student has been educated in. We guarantee internships in a desired field of profession but not in a desired company. Regional preferences will be considered as much as possible.
In our program we offer full-time internships only. A usual working day in Germany lasts between 7 and 10 hours. Therefore it is not possible to study German at our center in the morning and work at the company in the afternoon. Please note that most internships are without remuneration.
In order to find a suitable company and to get your working permission, please apply at least three months before your language course starts. The program is available all year round and can be booked at any time. The enrolment for the internship program includes:
- the enrolment form for the German course
- the internship application form
- eight passport size photos (colour)
- a typed curriculum vitae in table form (English or German)
- a letter of application for the company in German (English or German)
- letters of recommendation (English or German, if available)
€ 400,- (one time only)
If you need support finding an accommodation near your workplace, we will be pleased to assist you. The small commission fee charged for the service depends on the duration of your internship.
Please note that the travel health insurance offered by Humboldt can only be taken out for the duration of the course but not for the internship. We therefore recommend to take out a travel health insurance policy in your home country for the entire stay.
