Schmallenberg is a typical town of the Sauerland region, which is known as the “land of a thousand mountains.” Anybody who has visited there will understand how the region has earned its reputation as one of Germany’s most popular recreation areas. The historic city center of this picturesque spa town enchants visitors with half-timbered houses and narrow alleys.

The school

Our students are guests at the Bad Fredeburg Academy, which is located in a district of Schmallenberg. The very picturesque center of this little town is only a few minutes’ walk from the school which is housed in an attractive building in a very quiet area surrounded by parks. Students can soak up the peaceful atmosphere of the grounds and the town. Schmallenberg is especially popular for its flexible system of courses, with weekly arrival and departure.

Accommodation

The friendly atmosphere of the building will help the students to soon feel at home in the new environment. Students live in twin and a few multiple occupancy rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The students have Wi-Fi access at the school.

We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately.

Our students receive three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) as well as a snack daily.

Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly.

Leisure time

Schmallenberg welcomes our students with a large variety of leisure activities. The Bad Fredeburg Academy has an auditorium with a stage for plays and parties, a large lawn for outdoor activities, a sports hall, a campfire and barbecue area — everything our students need to have a good time, no matter what the weather is like.

Students who love mountain biking or a more leisurely bike ride will enjoy the Bike Arena Sauerland, which offers a complex trail system for all skill levels. Of course, we also organize bicycle trips for students on our school-owned mountain bikes.

A short walk from our course center, our students can enjoy a great water fun park, a miniature golf course, as well as the very picturesque historic center of the little town of Bad Fredeburg.
