Heessen Castle is situated on the Lippe River on the outskirts of the town of Hamm, not far from the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region.

The castle dates back to the 15th century and was built in a neo-gothic style. It is surrounded by a lovely park and, besides its many historical and modern buildings, the castle grounds also feature a small island in the Lippe River.

Hamm offers many public green spaces, among them Maximilian Park with its huge glass elephant, the landmark of the town.

The school

The spacious course center area in Heessen Castle combines tradition and modern comfort and offers our young students a great variety of leisure time opportunities. The former manor of knights is surrounded by lush green meadows, trees, rivers, as well as a small island on the Lippe River. In addition to the Gothic three-winged main building, the gorgeous castle premises comprise a modern school building and the students’ dormitories.

Accommodation

Our students are housed in the castle’s dormitories in twin rooms with shared facilities.

We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other. We take care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately.

Three main meals and two snacks per day are provided for our juniors in the school canteen, which has been certified by the German Nutrition Society.

Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly.

Leisure time

A wide variety of activities are offered on campus for our juniors to ensure they have fun and enjoy diversity in their leisure time. We regularly organize bicycle trips in the surrounding areas on our school-owned mountain bikes.

Activity program

Every day we offer an attractive and varied activity program with sports, games or cultural events for the leisure time after class. Our staff will encourage and motivate students to participate in the activities. This leisure program is included in the tuition fees.
