Junior intensive courses in July at Wittgenstein Castle, for students from 8 to 12 years of age
|
 | Wittgenstein Castle, where this course takes place, is located on a hill above the town Bad Laasphe, surrounded by the charming scenery of the Rothaar Mountains. Bad Laasphe is a well-known and pretty German spa town with timber-framed houses amidst a well-wooded area with about 200 km of hiking paths around. The romantic River Lahn meanders through the historic town center, adding to the picturebook atmosphere. Bad Laasphe lies only 120 km east of Cologne, that big and modern German city which is world-famous for its gotic dome, and a metropolis of art. Students will of course be offered a full-day excursion to Cologne.

 | This junior course, lasting three weeks, has been especially designed for students from 8 to 12 years of age as an early approach to a foreign language promises to be especially successful. In a course with 25 lessons per week, our teachers will use adequate methods to introduce the German language and stimulate students' interest in the country and its people.
The courses' emphasis is to lower the threshold of anxiety and to encourage pupils to speak German, to improve listening and speaking abilities and to practice reading and writing. The school seeks to create everyday situations, for example, through planned dialog games, so that all participants will have more and more fun in actively using their knowledge of the foreign language.
These courses serve levels A1 - B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference.

 | Our students live in the beautiful Castle of Wittgenstein, ancestral home of the illustrious Sayn-Wittgenstein dynasty, or in the adjaccent modern dormitory. Boys and girls are accommodated separately in two- to four-bed rooms with showers/bathrooms on the same floor. We offer full board with three meals and two snacks a day.
The pupils are supervised 24 hours per day. Teachers and counsellors live on campus, too. This ensures a varied leisure time program in which students are encouraged to use German and thus continue to learn the language without even noticing it.

|
 | The boarding school provides an extra large gym of more than 1400 square meters, two indoor tennis courts, two sport fields for volleyball, basketball, streetball and soccer. Ping-pong and a workroom are also available. Another highlight: Wittgenstein is the ideal location for the horse-fancier. The school owns several horses and horseback riding is offered against a small fee.
Our supervisors will organize various sport activities and visits to the nearby outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Leisure-time activities vary daily: there are workshops (handicrafts, painting, theater), game parties, and excursions to pretty towns and sights in the region, e.g. the Lahn valley, the instructive Path of the Planets, or the stalactite caverns of Attendorn. On weekends we plan to visit Cologne and Marburg.
