Intensive courses in July/August on the edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District
|
 | Torgelow Castle lies directly on Lake Torgelow only 8 km from Waren an der Müritz on the edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District. This region is one of Northern Germany’s most unspoiled, beautiful landscapes, yet it lies within just 2 hours of the cosmopolitan cities of Hamburg and Berlin. Formed by massive glaciers 20,000 years ago, this gently rolling countryside is dotted with hundreds of lakes, moors, meadows and pastures. Waren an der Müritz, a welcoming town with lovingly restored half-timbered houses, was founded in the middle of the 13th century. Well-known as a health resort, this town of roughly 22,000 residents is large enough to offer a wide variety of recreational opportunities plus the chance to explore at a leisurely pace or to do a little shopping in the town center.

 | We offer courses of three weeks with 30 lessons per week at this course center.
In these courses, beginners can acquire basic knowledge of German and advanced learners can improve their language skills and gain fluency in their oral and written expression. A detailed placement test on the first day of class helps us to assign students a course that really corresponds to their language level. Our classes consist of 5 to 10 students maximum.
In our classes, we focus on all relevant aspects of a foreign language, i.e., listening and reading comprehension, written expression, grammar, and oral expression. We particularly emphasize our students' need to learn to ask in German, to participate in conversations and to express themselves adequately in German in a large number of real-life situations. The daily contact with everyday life in Germany, homework assignments, and a constant exposure to German during our organized after-class activities further encourage our students to put into practice what they have learned also outside the classroom.
These courses serve levels A1 - C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference.

 | Students learn a lot and study hard, so they need to relax and have fun after class. That’s why our program supervisors organize a different blend of athletics, creative projects and hands-on activities every day. Our facilities include, among other amenities, a theater room, a gymnasium with a fitness room, an arts and crafts room, a music hall, a piano and a computer room with Internet access.
Day trips on weekends include excursions to Hamburg and Berlin; during the week we visit local points of interest, such as, of course, the quaint town of Waren and the Mecklenburg Lake District.
The range of athletic activities offered at the center is large and age-appropriate. Our students can play soccer, volleyball, basketball and tennis at the school’s athletic facilities or in the newly constructed gymnasium. The school also maintains a lakeside dock and rowboats, giving students direct access to the lake for swimming and boating. Plus, students with prior knowledge of German can take advantage of riding and golf lessons - the latter even includes a test that, if passed, allows students to acquire a Platzreife license for playing on public golf courses. Riding and golf lessons are not included in the course fees, however.
