Intensive courses, starting every week from June till August, in the land of a thousand mountains
|
 | The Akademie Bad Fredeburg in Schmallenberg will be host to our language center. Bad Fredeburg, a beautiful spa town with picturesque half-timbered houses, located at the border of the „Rothaargebirge“ mountain range, is a typical town of the Sauerland region. The Sauerland is known as the „land of a thousand mountains“ and anybody who has visited the area around Schmallenberg, with its healthy climate and altitude ranging from 350 to 818 meters, will understand how the region has earned its reputation as one of Germany’s most popular recreation areas. Here, in the north of Frankfurt, attractive little towns are surrounded by marvelous mountain ranges and extensive forests. Rustic little farms are situated right next to the characteristic houses of a region that was shaped by slate mining and the production of knitted garments.
Schmallenberg itself is an impressive example of early 19th century urban architecture. Its historic town center contains a wide range of black and white houses with natural slate roofing, bay windows, gables, attics and ornate doors.
Come to the Sauerland region and learn German in the „land of a thousand mountains“!

 | At our center in Schmallenberg, we offer intensive courses of 2 to 9 weeks with 30 lessons per week.
Our intensive courses in Schmallenberg are designed both for absolute beginners who would like to develop a basic knowledge of German and for advanced learners who want to improve their language skills and gain fluency in their oral and written expression. Our flexible course length enables each participant to choose a course that meets his or her requirements both with regard to content and time planning. On the first day of class, we will hold a detailed placement test which allows us to assign students their corresponding course levels. Thus we ensure that courses consist of students with similar language skills, which in turn enables us to optimize the learning progress of all participants. The small size of our classes with not more than 10 participants also contributes considerably to the fact that our students notice a clear improvement of their language skills at the end of our courses.
In our intensive courses, we also emphasize the fact that students need to handle all important areas of a foreign language (speaking, writing, reading, listening, and grammar) to a similar degree. Experience shows us that only the students who master all of these areas really feel at ease in German, which in turn is the basis for a successful and lasting learning experience.
These courses serve levels A1 - C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference.

 | Our students live in single, double and a few multiple occupancy rooms in the Akademie Bad Fredeburg, a very attractive house with an appealing atmosphere. Most of the rooms have their own bathrooms/showers. The house offers three main meals and two snacks each day, and takes care to include a large variety of dishes and small details like homemade cakes.

 | Our students will find that Bad Fredeburg offers a large variety of leisure activities. The Andreas Hermes Akademie itself has an auditorium for plays and parties, a photo lab, sauna, billiards, darts, football, a lawn that serves as a playground, a campfire and barbecue site, a party room, and a summer terrace - everything our students need to have a good time, no matter what the weather is like.
A short walk away from our language center, our students can enjoy a great indoor water fun park, and a miniature golf course is also close to our house.
In Schmallenberg (8 km), our students will find a big outdoor swimming pool. We shall also provide our students with a special bus ticket, the „Sauerland CARD“, that enables them to use buses in the entire Sauerland region for free. Other spare-time destinations that can be reached easily by bus are a golf course (8 km), an Internet cafè and the movie theater in Schmallenberg.
Young people who enjoy sports and a good exercise will surely feel at home in Bad Fredeburg. Volleyball, basketball, soccer etc. can be played both indoors and outdoors. We also have a room where our students can play ping-pong. Tennis courts are close to our house (500 m); usage, however, is not included in the course fees. Students who love mountain biking or enjoy a leisurely ride on their bike will enjoy the „Bike Arena Sauerland“, a huge array of bike tracks that clearly indicate which track is suitable for which user, the athletic or the leisurely type.
The excursions that we organize for our summer course students include trips to Cologne, Paderborn, Muenster, Bonn, Frankfurt, Marburg, a mine close to Ramsbeck and the stalactite caverns in Attendorn. We can also organize a visit to an outdoor center with a rope climbing garden, archery, climbing wall and team Olympics, a tour of a brewery in the region, and a trip to the summer toboggan run in Winterberg.
