German courses from June until August at marvelous Lake Constance, accommodation in families
|
 | The picturesque town of Meersburg is located on the northern shores of Lake Constance. Surrounded by orchards and vineyards, the town offers a marvelous view of the Swiss and Austrian Alps. But it is not only the romantic region that makes Meersburg to one of our most popular course centers. The gorgeous old part of town always invites its visitors to go shopping or just go for a walk in an idyllic atmosphere. Meersburg was named after the town's impressive castle, the oldest one in Germany that is still in use. A magnificent baroque castle and many well-preserved half-timbered houses also figure among the town's outstanding buildings. If you would like to relax for a while, you just have to take a short stroll to the lakeside promenade where you can enjoy a break in one of the many cafés right next to Lake Constance. You can either just sit down for a while and observe the vivid lakeside atmosphere and the life on the lake with the wonderful Alps as background or, if you still have some energy left or would like to cool down a little, go to the bathing beach or to the outdoor swimming pool.
German courses in Meersburg - an intensive learning experience in one of Germany's most popular vacation areas.

|
 | In Meersburg we offer main courses with 25 lessons per week.
During the courses of three or six weeks our students can improve their knowledge of German in small groups of no more than ten students. Beginners can acquire basic knowledge of the German language. After an entrance test each student attends a class according to his or her level. Through contact with German everyday life, through assignments and talks the students are stimulated and encouraged to put into practice what they have learned.
These courses serve levels A1 - B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference.
At this language center, we offer a valuable and officially recognized certificate of German language proficiency, the Zertifikat Deutsch. In our intensive German courses, we prepare our students for the exam. As an officially licensed test center, we also hold the exam in our buildings. If you need more information about the exam, the examination dates, etc., please click on Zertifikat Deutsch.

 | Girls and boys are accommodated in families that usually live within walking distance from the school. Students who will not stay within walking distance will get a bicycle free of charge. Students have a choice of half or full board at Meersburg.
Many local families of Meersburg have become traditional hosts for our students; they enjoy the international atmosphere and want to give their foreign visitor an insight into their lives. Please note in your enrollment form whether you wish to have a closer, more personal contact with your family or if you prefer a more independent kind of guest family accommodation. Students stay with their family on a bed & breakfast basis, and will have dinner in the beautiful west wing of Meersburg's Baroque Castle. Lunch, however, is not included in the fee. It can be obtained either for an extra charge from the Humboldt-Institut, or students may prefer to explore the restaurants and cafés in the town.

 | Most of the Meersburg participants are minors. So there have to be special rules, especially for the free time. For example there is a curfew after 11 p.m. before school days. We regard observance of the rules as essential for the success of everyone's course. The guest families supervise the keeping of the rules as well as the school.
There will be an activities coordinator in charge of the daily program which consists of games, sports, discussion groups (in German), movies, exhibitions, concerts and the like. Sailing and windsurfing are extra activities during the summer courses and our staff will be happy to assist with the booking of training courses for our students.
Except for horse-back-riding, sailing, windsurfing and tennis, most of the manifold activities are included in the price.
On the weekends, we organize full-day excursions to interesting sights in southern Germany. Major German cities like Stuttgart and Freiburg as well as beautiful towns such as Constance (with the "flower island" of Mainau), Überlingen, Lindau and Friedrichshafen figure among our destinations. The costs for all of these trips are included in our course fees.
