Bad Duerkheim

Junior intensive courses in July in a historic spa town in the mildest climatic zone in Germany

The place
Bad Duerkheim is located in the mildest climatic zone north of the Alps. Situated only 30 minutes from Heidelberg, this historic health resort, which can trace its history back well over a thousand years, nestles in the area where the eastern hills run into the Palatine Forest, one of the largest nature parks in Germany. Today the spa town has 21,000 inhabitants and is one of Germany`s largest wine-growing districts. It offers not only Mediterranean climate with southern flair, numerous castles and fortresses, but also the proverbial cheerful nature of people from the Palatinate. In this town situated on the German "Weinstrasse", or wine trail, we are guests in Christophorus House.

Course description
The courses at Bad Dürkheim are junior intensive courses of three weeks with 25 lessons per week.

During these courses, our students can improve their knowledge of German in small groups of no more than ten students on average. Beginners can acquire basic knowledge of the German language. After a placement test each student attends a class according to his or her level. Through contact with German everyday life, through assignments and talks the students are encouraged to put into practice what they have learned. The small size of our classes with 5 to 10 participants also contributes considerably to the fact that our students notice a clear improvement of their language skills at the end of our courses.

These courses serve levels A1 - C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference.

Accommodation
The friendly Youth Hostel St. Christophorus is situated in the western part of Bad Dürkheim not far from the town center. With a wonderful view past the town and stretching for miles across the Rhine valley, the students live in two- to four-bed rooms, some of which have their own bathrooms and showers. Our students are served three main meals and one snack a day.

Free-time activities
After the lessons, our supervisors ensure that the students have a full sports and leisure program every day to keep them from getting bored. On Saturdays, excursions are made to the world famous town of Heidelberg and to Germany`s oldest city, Trier. The house`s own "Rick`s Cafe" is an inviting venue for private parties. When the weather outside is less pleasant, students can find plenty to keep themselves occupied inside: A workshop, a games room, table tennis and football. The town center can be reached by foot in 25 minutes.

Volleyball, basketball, streetball and football can be played on the school`s own sports grounds. In addition, there are plenty of outdoor ping-pong tables. Mountainbikes are available, too. On hot summer days the students can cool off at a pleasant outdoor swimming pool. Except for horse riding, most of the manifold activities are included in the price.

Our specialized staff guarantees a thorough and reliable round the clock supervision.
